Exceptional Children

To my mind, if a person dislikes kids, he never connects his life with school. Each day at school is a challenge indeed due to some peculiarities of this profession. To discover and notice a child in the classroom is the first step in planning work for the exceptional children. Certain physical handicaps are apparent; others are easily discovered through the use of screening tests, physical examinations and mental tests. Each detail must be under control actually. Children with special health problems or with minor degrees of physical impairment or emotional maladjustment are discovered through observation. School teachers should pay attention on any of these features. Watching a kid during the playtime, the teacher takes into consideration the way he behaves – active, emotional, interested in games. In many instances, helping the child to gain and maintain good physical and stamina will result in the elimination or minimizing of his emotional problems. If these facts will be under control, the child then will be capable of making maximum use of his mental endowments. That is why the teacher has to be attentive to a kid’s words and actions that no sign of physical or emotional difficulty will escape the teacher’s sight. Frequent trips to the restroom, excessive thirst, complaints of aches and pains in arms or legs may indicate the beginning of a serious problem. These symptoms must be investigated as earlier as possible, and then a long period of devastating illness may be prevented because a child will be treated adequately and in time. ‘School is a child’s second home and a teacher is his second mom’ – this idea has to be born in a teacher’s mind.
